Amir Eyal, 19, of Haifa, was a surveillance balloon operator in the Border Defense Corps’s 414th unit, remembered as a cheerful young man who enjoyed life’s simple comforts. He was on guard duty at the Nahal Oz outpost on October 7 when Hamas terrorists invaded. Amir and four fellow balloon operators fought back against the attackers despite being heavily outnumbered, and all five were killed in the battle.
