Dr. Marcel Frailich Kaplun, 64, was a scientist, educator and beloved member of Kibbutz Be’eri, where she lived for four decades. With degrees in chemistry and a doctorate in science teaching, she devoted her career at the Weizmann Institute to making chemistry and science accessible to young people. She helped write textbooks, develop educational programs and train teachers, and colleagues remembered her radiant smile, optimism and larger-than-life presence. Marcel was preparing to retire but already planning new educational projects. She was murdered on October 7 alongside her husband, Dror Kaplun.
