Faiza Abu Sabieh, 57, of Kukhleh, was the beloved matriarch of a large Bedouin family — a mother of 10 and grandmother to more than 50 grandchildren. Her daughter remembered Faiza as the center of their lives and home, where the family gathered every Saturday morning for breakfast, blessings and prayers. She shared an especially close bond with her granddaughter Mai, who often slept at her home and helped care for her. On October 7, Faiza and Mai were killed together when a rocket fired from Gaza struck the family home in Kukhleh, where residents lacked bomb shelters and reinforced rooms.
