Geula Bachar of Kibbutz Be’eri was the matriarch of a large family, survived by her husband, five children and many grandchildren. On October 7, she was with two of her grandsons, Edan and Sahar Baruch, as Hamas terrorists attacked the kibbutz. Geula and Edan were murdered, while Sahar was abducted to Gaza and later killed in captivity. Her son, retired IDF Maj. Gen. Yossi Bachar, fought terrorists in Be’eri throughout the day before learning that his mother had been killed. Her story is inseparable from the devastating losses endured by her family that day.
