Hillel Zalmanovitch, 60, of Ashdod, was a devoted husband, father of three and grandfather of seven with a lifelong love of Israel, history and the outdoors. After high school he trained at the Air Force technical school and served in Nahal, including as a sniper during the First Lebanon War. He met his wife Tikva during his service, and they built a marriage she described as rooted in love, respect and understanding. After retiring, Hillel fulfilled a dream by becoming a licensed tour guide, captivating friends with his historical knowledge and remarkable memory. An avid cyclist and traveler, he also trekked through Australia and New Zealand with Tikva after retirement.
