Iván Illarramendi Saizar, 46, a native of Spain’s Basque Country, lived at Kibbutz Kissufim with his wife, Loren “Dafna” Pamela Garcovich Montoya. The couple had met about 15 years earlier and made their home together in the Gaza-border community. On October 7, they returned home early from a party after hearing gunfire and sheltered as Hamas terrorists invaded the kibbutz. They messaged relatives and friends that intruders were destroying their home and that they needed to remain silent. After being missing for a month, Iván and Dafna were identified among remains found together in their home. Iván was returned to Spain for burial.
