Kibbutz Nahal Oz
Maayan Idan, 18, of Kibbutz Nahal Oz, was a talented volleyball player who loved books and was devoted to her younger siblings. She had celebrated her 18th birthday just four days before October 7. As Hamas terrorists attacked the family home, Maayan helped her father Tsachi hold the safe-room door shut. Gunfire penetrated the door and killed her. Tsachi was then abducted alive to Gaza; he was later murdered in captivity and his body returned to Israel in February 2025.
