Kukhleh
Mai Zuhir Abu Sabieh, 13, of Kukhleh, was a serious student who dreamed of becoming an English teacher. Her aunt remembered that Mai loved life and her family, enjoyed teaching English to her brothers and nephews, and would happily correct relatives when they spoke the language. She was especially close to her grandmother, Faiza, often sleeping at her home and helping make sure she took her medicines. On October 7, Mai and her grandmother were killed together when a rocket fired from Gaza struck their home in the Bedouin village of Kukhleh, where residents lacked bomb shelters and reinforced rooms.
