Mordechay “Moti” Shamir, 29, was a career officer in the Golani Reconnaissance Unit and an expectant father. Home when the October 7 invasion began, he immediately headed south, took command of soldiers fighting near Ofakim and later entered Kibbutz Re’im with a small force. Moti was killed battling Hamas terrorists there, before ever having the chance to meet his baby daughter.
