Niv Aivas, 25, of Nitzan, was a mechanical engineer, former Caracal Battalion combat soldier and newlywed who was expecting his first child. Born and raised in Jerusalem, he loved art and drawing, was a devoted Beitar Jerusalem soccer fan and worked alongside his father at the family auto shop specializing in hybrid vehicles. When the war began, Niv wanted to join his reserve unit even though he had not yet received official orders. On October 8, while driving to Jerusalem to collect his military equipment so he could volunteer for the fighting, he was mistakenly identified as a terrorist and killed by Israeli security forces near Ashdod. His son, Liev Meir, was born several months later.
