Ori Mordechay Shani, 22, of Kiryat Arba, was a Golani platoon commander remembered for his courage, strength and spirit. On October 7, Ori and five soldiers were on patrol when the Hamas invasion began. Despite shortages of ammunition and water, they fought for more than eight hours before returning to the Kissufim outpost for supplies. Ori was killed there by mortar fire while continuing to defend the base.
