Roy Bareket, 20, of Tel Aviv, was a Golani squad commander, sports lover and former scout counselor remembered as an energetic redhead with dimples. When Hamas invaded on October 7, Roy and his soldiers fought terrorist cells along the Gaza border before rushing to help defend the Nahal Oz base. Their armored vehicle was badly damaged, but they continued fighting on foot. Roy was killed in the battle alongside his commander and fellow soldiers.
