Shahaf Nissani, 20, of Rishon Lezion, was a surveillance balloon operator in the Border Defense Corps’s 414th unit, remembered as a loyal friend who always tried to lift others up. On October 7, when Hamas terrorists overran the Nahal Oz outpost, Shahaf and four fellow balloon operators fought back despite being heavily outnumbered. All five were killed in the battle defending the base.
