Shlomi Mathias, 46, was a musician and beloved elementary-school music teacher who lived with his wife Shahar Deborah and their children in Kibbutz Holit. Former students remembered his huge smile and the way he encouraged their love of music. On October 7, Hamas terrorists broke into the family home. Shlomi tried to hold the safe-room door while he and Shahar shielded their teenage son Rotem. Shlomi and Shahar were murdered; Rotem survived despite being wounded.
